How important is protecting Wilmot's farmland when you vote?
Farmland is more than open space. It's part of Wilmot's identity, our local food system, our economy, and our future.
Over the past several years, I've spent considerable time advocating for farmland and groundwater protection, researching municipal and provincial decisions, and working with residents and experts to better understand the challenges facing our community.
The proposed 770-acre land assembly has raised important questions about how agricultural land is protected, how major decisions are made, and how residents participate in shaping Wilmot's future.
I believe we need stronger farmland and groundwater protections in our Official Plan and better long-term planning that considers the consequences of development.
With the municipal election approaching on October 26, I'd encourage everyone to examine the positions, past actions and specific commitments of the candidates running for mayor.
How important is protecting Wilmot's farmland when you're deciding who to vote for?
I'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts.
Please share this discussion with others who care about the future of Wilmot's farmland, and encourage them to learn about the issues before voting.
