Election Day

I wanted to send one final reminder about just how important your vote is.

In the 2022 Wilmot election, only 6,948 votes were cast for Mayor.

This year, there are four candidates running for Mayor.

That means it is especially important that as many people as possible take the time to vote and have a say in what direction Wilmot takes over the next four years.

Throughout this campaign, I have been talking about the issues I believe we need to address:

  • Protecting our farmland and groundwater.

  • Making sure growth is responsible and that we understand whether our infrastructure, water and wastewater systems can support it.

  • Getting a much clearer understanding of our finances, infrastructure needs, debt, reserves and long-term costs before making major spending decisions.

  • Improving accountability and transparency.

  • And most importantly, making sure residents are brought into conversations and that their knowledge, concerns and ideas are actually part of the decision-making process.

I have spent years working with residents, community organizations, businesses and volunteers. I know how much experience and knowledge exists in Wilmot, and I believe we need to do a much better job of bringing people together when we are trying to solve difficult problems.

If you have been meaning to vote but have not done it yet, please make the time to do so.

Word of mouth is also incredibly important in a municipal election. Please consider giving a quick call to your family members, neighbours or friends and reminding them to vote too.

I especially encourage you to check in with senior relatives or neighbours who may be confused by their voting letter, unsure how to vote online, or who may not have received their voter information.

If someone needs help, please let us know.

We have volunteers who can drop in and help someone understand the online voting process, or provide a ride to their voting location if they would rather vote in person.

Sometimes the only thing stopping someone from voting is that they are unsure what to do or they need a little help getting there. We want to make sure that does not prevent anyone from having their voice heard.

If the priorities I have talked about throughout this campaign reflect the kind of leadership you want to see in Wilmot, I would be grateful for your vote for Mayor.
